The Game of Shows

Game of Thrones is not the only show to come out of Northern Ireland it is certainly the biggest. Over the past ten years, the Northern Ireland screen industry has grown and secured a host of many productions from TV to movies including; Game of Thrones, Dracula Untold, The Fall, In the Line of Duty, and Oscar winner The Shore. All of which have helped put Northern Ireland on the map for screen-related tourism.

Sites to Behold

Exploring the real locations used to bring not only the fantasy-filled show to our screens sounds like an adventure on its own, and many come from afar to be able to do so. The shows and films made here have helped showcase the beauty and natural landscapes that Northern Ireland has to offer to a worldwide audience. Creating opportunities for the tourism industry to develop exciting and engaging tourism experiences built around the locations used for filming. Companies like Game of Thrones Tours and Game of Thrones Direwolves offer an interactive experience for eager fans.

The Kingsroad

If you have already been to see the Dark Hedges why not add the Game of Thrones doors to your adventure list? As a result of Storm Gertrude in 2016, several trees were destroyed from this famous location. To preserve and not make waste Discover Northern Ireland commissioned the felled trees into ten doors. Each door was carved intricately, depicting a scene from season 6 of the show. Now each door is on display within ten pubs and inns across Northern Ireland. All of which are near locations where the show was filmed. So why not visit them and have lunch when we are allowed to!

Closer to Happy Ireland HQ to celebrate ten years of filming within Northern Ireland, six large stained glass windows were commissioned to showcase some of the most iconic scenes from the final season. These six windows now form a walking trail across Belfast. Beginning at City Hall and then stretching 1.8 miles to the Titanic slipways, which is right beside Titanic Belfast and Titanic Studios. The home to the Great Hall of the Red Keep and the famous Iron Throne. As the weather gets warmer take advantage of the sun and capture some snaps of the panes in full glory on your walk.
